Toronto-based agency 3 Apples High approached me to craft a brand video that would bring their core values and creative identity to life. The objective was to transform static illustrations into a compelling animated story that celebrated the agency’s local roots and culture while clearly communicating their philosophy.
The Creative Solution
Storytelling Through Motion & Visual Metaphors
I developed a central concept based on a fluid ink trail representing the agency’s ideas and identity. This animation guided the viewer through a stylized map of Toronto, with each segment revealing key brand principles such as “Humility, Honesty, Hustle” and “Iron Sharpens Iron.” The visual journey was designed to evoke rhythm and emotional resonance, blending cultural nods with a cohesive design language.
The Execution
Tools: Adobe After Effects, Duik Animation Rig
Using After Effects and character rigging tools, I executed the animation with a strong focus on motion principles and design clarity:
Fluid Animation: Created a dynamic ink path that felt natural and intentional.
Dynamic Reveals: Synced illustrated elements with the motion narrative to maintain flow and focus.
Pacing & Rhythm: Structured visual beats to build energy and a sense of progression.
Cohesive Style: Maintained a gritty, illustrative aesthetic that honoured the client’s original artwork.
