English Speeches
Launching a Personal Project to Learn English
I launched English Speeches in 2017 as a deeply personal project. The goal was simple: improve my own English by listening to powerful, real-world speeches. What started as self-improvement quickly turned into something much bigger. I realized there was a gap between textbook English and the natural, expressive language spoken in real life, full of rhythm, nuance, and emotion. My challenge became creating content that would preserve that authenticity while being legible, digestible, and motivating for learners worldwide.
The Creative Solution
Transforming Speeches into Study Tools
To make real speeches more useful for learners, I developed a distinctive format. Each video is edited cinematically to emphasize flow, emotion, and key ideas. Subtitles are designed with large, readable text and carefully timed for natural pacing so viewers can follow without pausing. I also prepared transcripts and audio files so learners could read, listen, and practice offline. This combination of cinematic presentation, subtitles, and study resources gave the channel its unique identity.
The Execution
Building a Consistent Production Workflow
Over time I built a clear process that I still follow today:
Speech Curation: Choosing impactful speeches with both strong delivery and educational value.
Editing and Pacing: Refining the rhythm of each talk to make it study-friendly without losing authenticity.
Subtitles and Accessibility: Using clean, high-contrast captions calibrated for comprehension on mobile and TV.
Resource Integration: Pairing videos with transcripts and MP3s to give learners multiple ways to engage.
This workflow has been refined across hundreds of videos and is the foundation for the channel’s consistency.
The Outcome
From a Study Habit to Over 6 Million Subscribers
What started as a small, personal learning project has grown into a global channel with over 6 million subscribers, more than 364 million views, and 430+ published videos. The content resonates with viewers not just as a language tool but also as a source of inspiration and storytelling. It is deeply rewarding to know that something I created for myself now supports millions of learners around the world on their own English journeys.
